Mino ware began during the Momoyama period, which saw the rise of the "tea ceremony" culture. It has been particularly cherished by tea masters active during this era, who were influenced by Japan's "wabi-sabi" aesthetic. Representative colors of Mino ware include the elegant pale yellow "Kizeto," the lustrous jet black "Setoguro," the milky white "Shinoyaki," which evokes a soft, smooth texture, and the rare green design unique to Mino ware known as "Oribeyaki." Today, Mino ware accounts for over half of Japan’s domestic production of porcelain dinnerware.
