Mino ware originated in the Momoyama period alongside the flourishing of the Japanese tea ceremony and is primarily produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It was especially cherished by tea masters who shaped the aesthetic of wabi-sabi during that era. Key styles of Mino ware include the elegant pale yellow of Kizeto, the glossy black of Setoguro, the soft milky white of Shino ware, and the uniquely green-accented Oribe ware. Today, Mino ware accounts for over half of Japan’s domestic porcelain tableware production.
