Blue Rabbit Smoky Rice Bowl

This is a Mino ware rice bowl.

It features yuki usagi—a traditional Japanese winter pastime where snow is shaped into little rabbits. The bowl is adorned with many of these snow rabbits, making it especially charming.

Of course, it's perfect for serving rice, but it can also be used as a small side dish bowl or to hold small treats like candies.

Mino ware originated during the Momoyama period, alongside the rise of the tea ceremony, and is primarily produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It was particularly loved by tea masters during the birth of Japan's wabi-sabi culture. Notable types of Mino ware include the refined pale yellow Kizeto, the glossy jet-black Setoguro, the soft milky-white Shino ware, and the uniquely green-patterned Oribe ware. Today, Mino ware accounts for more than half of all porcelain tableware produced in Japan.
