Mino ware is a type of pottery that originated in the Momoyama period and is primarily produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It developed alongside the rise of the Japanese tea ceremony and was especially cherished by tea masters during the emergence of Japan’s wabi-sabi aesthetic. Representative styles of Mino ware include the refined pale yellow Kizeto, the glossy jet-black Setoguro, the soft, milky-white Shino ware, and the uniquely green Oribe ware, each known for their distinctive and rare designs. Today, Mino ware accounts for over half of all porcelain tableware produced in Japan.
