Tokaido Kanagawa Offshore Sushi Yunomi Teacup
This is a Mino ware teacup.
It features a design inspired by The Great Wave off Kanagawa, one of the most iconic prints from Katsushika Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji series.
With Hokusai’s dramatic wave and Mount Fuji beautifully recreated, this teacup could be considered a piece of artwork that fits in the palm of your hand.
It also makes a stylish decorative piece when displayed as interior decor.
Please note that the appearance and texture may vary slightly from piece to piece. Thank you for your understanding.
Mino ware originated during the Momoyama period, alongside the rise of the tea ceremony, and is primarily produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It was particularly loved by tea masters during the birth of Japan’s wabi-sabi culture. Notable types of Mino ware include the refined pale yellow Kizeto, the glossy jet-black Setoguro, the soft milky-white Shino ware, and the uniquely green-patterned Oribe ware. Today, Mino ware accounts for more than half of all porcelain tableware produced in Japan.
