Tenmoku Two-Tone Tonsui Bowl
This is a piece of Mino ware tableware.
The layered gradation of black, deep green, and white resembles geological strata, creating a striking and beautiful visual effect.
It’s especially well-suited for Japanese dishes with white elements—such as shiraae (tofu and vegetable salad) or chilled tofu—as the contrast enhances their appearance and appeal.
Please note that the appearance and texture may vary slightly between individual items. Thank you for your understanding.
Mino ware is a type of pottery that began during the Momoyama period and is primarily produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It flourished alongside the rise of the Japanese tea ceremony and was particularly cherished by tea masters during the birth of Japan’s wabi-sabi aesthetic. Notable Mino ware styles include the refined pale yellow Kizeto, the lustrous jet-black Setoguro, the soft milky-white Shino ware, and the distinctively green Oribe ware, each known for their unique beauty. Today, Mino ware accounts for over half of all porcelain tableware produced in Japan.
