Mino ware is a type of pottery that originated in the Momoyama period and has been primarily produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It flourished alongside the rise of the Japanese tea ceremony and was especially cherished by tea masters during the period when the culture of wabi-sabi was born. Signature styles of Mino ware include the refined pale yellow Kizeto, the lustrous jet-black Setoguro, the milky-white Shino ware reminiscent of soft skin, and the uniquely green Oribe ware, known for its rare and distinctive designs. Today, Mino ware accounts for over half of all porcelain tableware produced in Japan.
