Mino ware originated during the Momoyama period, alongside the rise of the "tea ceremony" culture, and is produced mainly in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It was particularly beloved by tea masters who flourished in the wabi-sabi culture of that era. The signature colors of Mino ware include the elegant pale yellow "Kizeto," the lustrous jet-black "Setoguro," the soft, milk-white "Shino ware," and the rare, green-patterned "Oribe ware," which is unique to Mino. Today, Mino ware accounts for more than half of Japan's domestic production of porcelain tableware.
