Naruto Karakusa Oval Bowl
This is Mino ware tableware.
Featuring a distinctive pattern of large swirling motifs called Naruto karakusa (Naruto vine), this design evokes a strong sense of Japanese tradition.
The plate itself makes a bold statement, so even simple dishes will look impressive when served on it.
Please note that the appearance and texture may vary slightly between items.
Mino ware is a type of pottery that began during the Momoyama period, flourishing alongside the rise of the tea ceremony. It is primarily produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It was particularly cherished by tea masters active during the Momoyama period, the birthplace of Japan’s wabi-sabi aesthetic.
Representative styles of Mino ware include the elegant pale yellow “Kizeto,” the glossy jet-black “Setoguro,” the soft, milky white “Shino ware,” and the uniquely green-patterned “Oribe ware,” which is particularly rare.
Today, Mino ware accounts for more than half of all porcelain tableware produced in Japan.
