Indigo Tokusa Oval Bowl
This is a piece of Mino ware tableware.
The blue and brown striped pattern on a white background gives it a refreshing look.
In fact, this isn’t just any stripe pattern—it’s a traditional Japanese design known as "Tokusa-gara". The straight, upward lines symbolize growth and prosperity, making it a highly auspicious motif.

Mino ware is a type of pottery that began during the Momoyama period, flourishing alongside the rise of the tea ceremony. It is primarily produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It was especially favored by tea masters of the time, during the birth of Japan’s "wabi-sabi" aesthetic. Notable Mino ware styles include the elegant pale yellow Kizeto, the glossy jet-black Setoguro, the milky-white Shino ware reminiscent of soft skin, and the uniquely green and distinctive Oribe ware. Today, Mino ware accounts for over half of all porcelain tableware produced in Japan.
