Mino ware is a type of pottery that originated in the Momoyama period and is primarily produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. It flourished alongside the rise of the Japanese tea ceremony and was especially beloved by tea masters during the emergence of Japan’s wabi-sabi aesthetic. Key styles of Mino ware include the elegant pale yellow Kizeto, the lustrous black Setoguro, the soft milky-white Shino ware, and the uniquely green Oribe ware, each known for their distinct designs. Today, Mino ware accounts for over half of all porcelain tableware produced in Japan.
