Please note that the appearance and texture may vary slightly from item to item.
Mino ware is a type of pottery that originated in the Momoyama period, flourishing alongside the rise of the tea ceremony. It is mainly produced in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. This style of pottery was especially beloved by tea masters who were active during the Momoyama period—the birth of Japan’s wabi-sabi aesthetic.
Representative glazes of Mino ware include:
Kiseto, a refined pale yellow
Setoguro, a lustrous jet black
Shino ware, a milky white reminiscent of soft, plump skin
Oribe ware, known for its uniquely vivid green patterns
Today, Mino ware accounts for over half of Japan’s domestic production of porcelain tableware.
